BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Şakir Baytaroğlu completed his PhD at Istanbul Yıldız Technical University. Prior to joining the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Bilkent University as laboratory coordinator, he worked at the TÜBİTAK National Metrology Institute as Assistant Director where, over multiple years, he served as assistant researcher, senior researcher, chief researcher scientist, department head and coordinator of a number of national and international projects. Over various periods between 1988 and 1995, he worked as visiting researcher at the French Metrological Institute CNAM-INM-LNE, German Metrological Institute PTB and International Bureau of Weight and Measures BIPM.
Dr. Baytaroğlu was a member of EURAMET General Assembly and Interdisciplinary Metrology Technical Committee (TC-IM) and committee member of the European Metrology Research Program (2004-2011). Dr. Baytaroğlu's personal interests include sports, history of science, movies and music.

RESEARCH
His research interests include fundamental and mechanical metrology, fine mechanics, automotive design, quality measurement, as well as control and design of measurement references standards. Dr. Baytaroğlu led and managed different design groups, carrying out system design and development projects especially in the fields of quality control and metrology, as well as the defense industry.
