Title: Combustion: An overview of concepts, modeling and challenges.
Date: Friday, February 28th, 2025
Time: 13:30
Place: EA-101

Abstract: The talk will give an overview of different areas of combustion science and technology. At the beginning of the talk, some basic principles of combustion will be outlined. In the second part, an overview of the mathematical modeling of combustion will be given, outlining the main challenges and solutions. For the sake of clarity, the discussion is limited to the combustion of gaseous fuels, excluding issues related to two-phase flows and heterogeneous combustion. The third part deals with future trends in combustion technology towards clean and sustainable combustion and the associated challenges, with a focus on hydrogen combustion. Although the topics covered are of a general nature, the examples generally take the perspective of the gas turbine.
