The purpose of this project is to conduct fundamental theoretical and numerical research on novel isogeometric analysis (IGA) technologies in the field of computational mechanics, and to develop algorithms which will enable the analysis of contact interfaces with high efficiency and robustness. Towards this purpose, this project will concentrate on the major goal of developing novel mortar-based contact algorithms which are based on surface discretizations that emanate from the projection of hierarchical NURBS (H-NURBS) based volume discretizations to surfaces. The mortar methods to be employed will be chosen from lumped and unconstrained approaches, which will be applied to quastistatic and dynamic thermomechanical contact problems with and without friction in the context of both exterior and interior point methods, thus spanning a broad range of theoretical and numerical settings.
