BIOGRAPHY

Günay joined BilMech as a faculty member in February 2023. Prior to that, he was an assistant professor at METU (2021-2023), and a researcher at The University of Tokyo (2019-2021). Günay obtained his PhD and MS degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign under the supervision of Dr. Nenad Miljkovic. His research is focused on thermal devices and materials. Dr. Günay is a recipient of the TÜBİTAK 2232-B Award.

RESEARCH

The goal of the Thermal Research & Optics Laboratory (TROL) led by Dr. Günay is to develop green passive devices for thermal applications. TROL utilizes both fundamental and applied research on nanomaterials, energy conversion systems, and thermal management through phase change. Current projects include:

• Development of metal-organic framework and hydrogel systems for thermal management,

• Radiative cooling using bulk coatings,

• Passive evaporative cooling techniques,

• Nanomaterial induced greenhouse films for year-round utilization,

• Selective surfaces for thermophotovoltaic systems,

• Characterization of optical properties and mechanical degradation of reflective surfaces
