The Mechanical Engineering Department has strong research expertise in the areas of Acoustics and Noise Control, Computational Mechanics, Design, Dynamics and Control, Manufacturing, Microfluidics, Miniature Robotics, Nanotechnology and Tribology and their applications to the aerospace, automotive and other industrial sectors.

Graduate students conduct research in the course of their education and produce theses, contents of which are also published in journals and presented at national as well as international conferences.

Undergraduate research is a unique aspect of the Mechanical Engineering Department at Bilkent. Exceptional undergraduates are given the chance to conduct individual research projects under the guidance of faculty members, mostly with financial support from the 2209/A program of TUBITAK.

Most research projects are conducted via international collaborations with institutions in the US and Europe. The Department also aims to develop several research areas consistent with the strengths of Bilkent University and with a vision to develop new and important technologies in Turkey. Among these are micro-systems and their design and manufacturing that will benefit from advances in nanotechnologies. Further focus subjects include microfluidics-based devices, nano-electro-mechanical systems (NEMS), the development of micro-robots as well as scanning probe microscopy (SPM).

Students interested in obtaining an M.S. or Ph.D. degree are encouraged to visit the graduate program website and apply to our exciting graduate program. We welcome students from all science and engineering backgrounds.
