Irmak Taylan Karpuzcu Joins Bilkent University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering!

Irmak Taylan Karpuzcu received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He earned his Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2019 and his Bachelor of Science degree in 2015 from Middle East Technical University (METU), where he conducted his graduate research under the supervision of Prof. Cüneyt Sert. He is a Certified Graduate Teacher and a MAVIS Future Faculty Fellow. His research focuses on the numerical simulation of high-speed fluid flows, leveraging high-performance computing techniques. His master's research centered on modeling turbulence in supersonic flows using Large Eddy Simulation (LES). His initial Ph.D. research focused on the non-equilibrium thermochemistry of hypersonic flows. Currently, his research involves investigating the stability of high-speed laminar flows at high altitudes using kinetic theory, linear stability analysis, and data-driven approaches.
