Barbaros Çetin, Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi Makine Mühendisliği Bölümü'nden yüksek lisans, Vanderbilt Üniversitesi Makine Mühendisliği Bölümü'nden doktora derecesini aldı. Araştırma ilgi alanları arasında:

(i) biyomedikal uygulamalar için mikro akışkanlar ve çipte laboratuvar teknolojisi

(ii) mikroakışkan (biyo) parçacıklı manipülasyon

(iii) Sınır Eleman Yöntemi kullanılarak mikrokanallarda partikül / hücre / mikroorganizma hareketinin modellenmesi

(iv) mikroakışkan cihazlar için mikro ve nano üretim teknikleri

(v) mikro oluklu ısı boruları

MS araştırması, Prof. Dr. Hafit Yüncü ve Prof. Dr. Sadık Kakaç nezaretinde mikrokanallarda konvektif ısı transferinin analizi üzerine yapıldı. Doktora araştırması, Prof. Dr. Dongqing Li'nin gözetiminde mikropartiküllerin ve hücrelerin ayrılması için çipte laboratuvar teknolojisinin geliştirilmesi üzerine yapıldı. Bilkent Üniversitesi'ne katılmadan önce Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi-Kuzey Kıbrıs Kampusu Makine Mühendisliği'nde öğretim üyesi olarak çalıştı. 2011 yılında Bilkent Üniversitesi Makine Mühendisliği Bölümüne katıldı ve Bilkent Üniversitesi Mikroakışkanlar ve Çipte Laboratuvar Araştırma Grubu'nu kurdu. Dr. Çetin, bir TÜBİTAK 3501 projesi ve bir TÜBİTAK 1001 projesini baş araştırmacı olarak, bir TÜBİTAK 1001 projesini ortak araştırmacı olarak tamamladı. Halen TÜBİTAK 1001, TÜBİTAK 1003 ve TÜBİTAK 2209 / A projelerinin danışmanıdır. Ayrıca TÜBİTAK 1512 Girişimcilik programının bir parçası olarak yeni kurulan NovuMek Inc. Co.'nun kurucu ortağıdır.

ARAŞTIRMA

Lab-on-a-chip (LOC) cihazları, karmaşık kimyasal yönetim ve analiz sistemlerini sadece milimetre veya santimetre boyutunda bir çip üzerine entegre edebilen ve elektronik ve optik algılama sistemleriyle etkileşime girebilen mikroakışkan platformlardır. LOC teknolojisinin nihai amacı, aynı analitik görevleri oda büyüklüğü veya tezgah üstü meslektaşları gibi hızlı ve doğru bir şekilde yerine getirebilen taşınabilir aygıtlar geliştirmektir; ancak, çok daha düşük üretim ve işletme maliyetlerinde ve daha da önemlisi yerinde test ve tespiti başarabilen. Dr. Çetin’in araştırma ilgisi, mikrokanal ağlarında taşınım olayları ve biyomedikal, biyolojik ve kimyasal uygulamalar için LOC teknolojisinin geliştirilmesi ile ilgili temel ve deneysel araştırmalara odaklanıyor. Ayrıca, hem analitik hem de sayısal analizlerle akışkan akışını ve ısı transferini mikro ölçekte ölçmekle ilgilenmektedir.
